Monolithic Dome Builders in Colorado

Monolithic Dome Builders in Colorado – Start-to-Finish Construction by Tri-Lakes Contracting

At Tri-Lakes Contracting LLC, we take pride in being more than just a construction company – we are your dedicated partners in transforming visionary projects into reality, from concept to completion. Specializing in remote, challenging builds like Monolithic Domes, we handle every phase of development except for the dome shell itself, thanks to our strategic partnership with Monolithic Constructors Inc. Our full-service general contracting ensures seamless integration of all site work, utilities, and infrastructure, allowing you to focus on the extraordinary durability and efficiency of your future monolithic Dome home.

🏔️ Pioneering Monolithic Dome Construction in Colorado’s High Country — Teller County’s First Permitted Dome

When others said it couldn’t be done, Tri-Lakes Contracting stepped in and made it happen—bringing to life a homeowner’s dream that once seemed impossible.

Perched on a remote, forested mountaintop in Teller County, Colorado, this ambitious project marks a groundbreaking moment in the region’s development history: the first-ever permitted monolithic dome residence in the county.

In a bold display of vision and progress, the Teller County building department and county board approved this forward-thinking structure—a testament to their willingness to embrace resilient, wildfire-resistant, and energy-efficient building solutions. Their support of this project reflects a broader commitment to innovative development that balances safety, sustainability, and long-term value for the community.

Designed by Monolithic Constructors, Inc., this dome faced extraordinary challenges: high-elevation terrain, limited access, fire-prone forests, and strict permitting requirements. But our team didn’t shy away. We championed the project, working closely with engineers and local officials to gain approval, break ground, and deliver a one-of-a-kind home built to withstand Colorado’s harshest elements.

🛠️ From Remote Peak to Legacy Property

This project turned a homeowner’s once “impossible” dream into a reality. When no other contractors were willing to touch it, Tri-Lakes Contracting made the vision real.

We transformed an untouched mountaintop into a build-ready, code-compliant site and executed every phase of construction for:

  • A two-story main monolithic dome

  • An adjacent garage dome,

  • And an underground tunnel connecting both structures

Our team completed all critical groundwork, including:

  • Selective forest clearing and precise grading

  • Tunnel excavation and dome foundation preparation

  • Driveway and access road construction through steep, forested terrain

  • Embedding the dome into the mountainside for structural resilience and thermal efficiency

The result: a home that’s both beautiful and nearly indestructible — a fortress built into the landscape, ready to stand for generations.

💧 Off-Grid, Year-Round Utility Solutions

This property is fully self-sustaining thanks to carefully engineered systems, including:

  • Two 5,025-gallon underground potable water storage tanks, buried below the frost line and capable of supplying the residence with water year round

  • A high-efficiency, fully engineered septic system, tested and installed to meet code and long-term usage needs

These systems ensure complete off-grid functionality, ideal for families seeking long-term independence, resilience, and reliability.

💡 Why This Dome Is the Future of Mountain Construction

Traditional homes are typically built to last 30 years — often just long enough for the mortgage to be paid off before major repairs begin. In contrast, monolithic domes are built to last over a century.

That means:

  • Minimal maintenance

  • Extraordinary energy efficiency

  • Wildfire and disaster resistance

  • Massive long-term return on investment

  • Unique architectural appeal with growing market demand

This structure is not just a home — it’s a lasting asset. In our view, it's one of Teller County’s most valuable properties, built to outperform and outlast nearly every conventional home in the region.

🌲 Complete Civil Site Development

Tri-Lakes Contracting handled every infrastructure element from start to finish, including:

  • Excavation for tunnels, tanks, foundations, and driveways

  • Grading, slope stabilization, and erosion control

  • Pulling utilities and electrical service more than 3,000 feet to the build site

  • Stormwater management and drainage

  • Full permit coordination, inspection oversight, and regulatory compliance

Our team turned an unbuildable mountain into a fully functional, high-value homestead.

🏗️ Building Bold Dreams in Colorado’s Backcountry

For homeowners seeking strength, safety, and sustainability — especially in regions prone to wildfires, storms, or utility disruptions — monolithic domes are more than structures. They’re smart investments.
