Setting timber framing on a custom mountain home in Colorado

A mountain custom home lives or dies on the site work under it — and that's exactly the part we do ourselves.

Tri-Lakes Contracting is a licensed and insured general contractor delivering ground-up custom homes and property development across Colorado's mountain regions. We build for durability, performance, and long-term value in high-altitude environments — and we manage the whole thing, from early planning and permitting through final inspection and certificate of occupancy, coordinating closely with engineers, architects, and trusted trade partners.

What sets a Tri-Lakes build apart is that the hardest part of a mountain home — the site under it — is handled in-house. Because we run our own excavation, septic, and water-storage crews, the access road, the foundation, the wastewater, and the water aren't subbed out to three vendors and hoped for — they're built by the same team that frames and finishes the house.

From raw land through a completed home, you get senior-led execution, clear communication at every phase, and a house built to perform through Colorado's snow load, freeze-thaw, and severe-weather demands.

Questions

How much does a custom home cost in the Colorado mountains?

It varies widely with site, size, and finish — mountain site development (access, foundations, septic, water) is the swing factor. We scope it during feasibility so you have a real budget, not a guess.

Do you do design-build?

Yes — we can take you from raw lot and concept through permitting and construction, or build from plans you already have.

Can you build on a steep or remote lot?

That's our normal. High-altitude, difficult-access, and remote terrain is what we're set up for.

Do you handle septic, water, and the driveway too?

Yes — all in-house, which is a major advantage on a mountain build where those are the hardest parts.
